Abstract The lattice vibrational spectra of a K 3Li 2Nb 5O 15 (KLN) single crystal were studied by Raman and IR reflectivity spectroscopy. Compared with the vibrational spectrum of SBN and KNSBN crystals, we can see that the influence of the Li ion in the C site in the KLN on the characteristic Raman and IR reflectivity spectra of the Nb O octahedron ion is very striking. Specially, the symmetric bend vibration mode υ 5 was split into three Raman lines, and the antisymmetric stretch and bend vibration modes υ 3 and υ 4 were all broadened greatly.
