Shanyou 10, examined anti approved by Zhejiang Provincial and China National Crop Vaviety Approval Committees in 1989 and 1990 respectively, was grown on 0.45 million hectares of paddy fields in Zhejiang Province during 1990 N 1991. With wide adaptability and suitable growth duration, it can be used as the medium rice crop or the second season rice crop in Zhejiang. It also possesses high yielding ability, good rice blast resistance, strong cold tolerance and good grain quality. The main cultural practices of it are： （1） Seeding and transplanting at suitable time in a given place and raising vigorous seedlings. Compared to Shanyou 6, the seeding clare should be 2 - 3 days later, for one-step seedling raising, the seeding rate and seedling age shoud not be over 112.5kg/ha and 35 days; for the two-step seedling raising, the seedling age not over 40 days; the plaming spacing is about 16.6cm× 20cm in general, with the basic seedlings of 1.2- 1.5 mil/ha. （2） Fertilizer and water management. 165 - 180kg pure nitrogen is applied on a hectare with the ratio of fertilizers basal： tillering： head sprouting 6：3：1 and the ratio of N：P2O5：K2O 1：0.27：0.45; the standing water is drained away when the number of tillers is up to the expected number of panicles and reirrigated when the second top leaves of 50% main culms emerge. （3） Control of diseases and insect pests, especially of rice bacterial blight.
