摘要
吴汝纶是晚清桐城派的末代宗师,虽恪守古文道统,思想却倾向洋务和维新,力倡西学,积极传播进化论思想。严复曾留学英伦,接受西式教育,但擅长以桐城古文译介西学,是中国近代最具影响力的启蒙思想家。尽管吴汝纶与严复的师承关系以及受教育的经历有较大差异,但他们却有着颇为相似的社会思想与学术观念:信奉进化史观,并恪守古文道统。
Wu Rulun is the master of the last generation of the Tongcheng School in the Late Qing Dynasty. Though he strictly follows Confucian orthodoxy of ancient Chinese prose, his thought is inclined to westernization movement and reform, and he forcefully initiates the Western learning and positively transmits the thought of evolution. Yan Fu, who once studies in Britain, receives the Western education and is good at translating the Western learning by using ancient Chinese prose, is the most impressive enlightenment thinker of modern times in China. Despite the inheriting relationship between Wu Rulun and Yan Fu, and their different education experiences, they have quite similar social thoughts and academic viewpoints: believing in the view on evolutional history, and strictly abiding by Confucian orthodoxy of ancient Chinese prose.
