摘要
在海明威《老人与海》中圣地亚哥与老人并不是同样一个实体。与圣地亚哥相比,老人缺少了与生命紧密相关的力量、姓名、性欲与语言,而这些缺失都直接地与死亡关联。作品中的另一人物——"小孩"为老人所有、圣地亚哥所无,他像老人一样,没有名字,却成为"生命之始"的换喻。通过对老人形象的分析可以看出文本中"重生安死"的诉求。
In The Old Man and the Sea, the old man and Santiago are not of the same identity. In his prime time of life, the old man is without strength, name, sexuality and language, all of which are associated with his pending death. The old man has the company of the nameless boy, who is the metonymy of the beginning of a renewed life, while Santiago does not. The story is an aesthetic appeal for a valued life with a tranquil death.
