In this paper a new species of Caridina is described. The specimens were collected from Lugu Lake in 1986. Type specimens are deposited in Shanghai Fisheries University.Caridina acutipoda sp. nov. (figs. 1-10)Rostrum reaches to the middle to extremity of the third segment of antennular peduncle. The dorsal border bears 11-15 teeth, 3-6 of which arc situated on the carapace behind orbit; the ventral border bears 1-3 teeth.Carpus of 1st leg is 1.3- 1.6 times as long as wide. Carpus of 2nd leg is 3.8-4.4 times as long as wide. Third legs of male are longer than those of female. In the male, the propodus is not very conspicuous dilated at the distal portion, the posterior border is covered with many spinules. In the female, the posterior border is not covered with many spinules. The endopod of the first male pleopod is leaf-shaped, it terminal portion is taper. The appendix masculina is rod-shaped, it is round and bears several spinules at the inner and distal portion.Comparison: The present new species closely allied to Caridina gregariana Kemp, but differs from the latter in the following feature 1. the extremity of the dorsal border of the rostrum has no isolated teeth and sub-top teeth; 2. the propodus of 3rd or 4th leg of the male is not very conspicuously dilated at its distal portion and the posterior border is covered with less spinules; 3. extremity of the endopod of 1st male pleopod is taper; 4. the appendix masculina is not spade-shaped.Type locality; Lugu Lake (27°43’N, 100°46’E).
