The established four continuous marine fish cell lines are the flounder ( Paralichthys olivaceus ) gill cell line FG at the passage number 105,the sea perch ( Lateolabrax japonicus ) spleen and heart cell lines SPS and SPH at the passage numbers 67 and 80,and the red sea bream ( Pagrosomus major ) fin cell line RSBF at the passage number 62.The three species of fish are widely cultured in China.Diseases occurred frequently in the recent years due to the intensive culture.The establishment of the cell lines are essential for monitoring the viral and rickettsial diseases of marine fish.All of the cell lines had the similar growth responses to temperatures.The best growth occurred in the temperature range of 20-25℃.At 15℃ the cell grew very slowly but could survive for one or two months without medium replacement.The chromosome counts showed the occurrence of aneuploidy and heteroploidy which suggested that the cells were transformed.
