Single Crystal Growth of Synthetic Emerald by Flux Circulation Method of Temperature Gradient in Used Natural Beryl

摘要 以天然绿柱石为原料采用温度梯度熔剂循环法生长祖母绿单晶ingleCrystalGrowthofSyntheticEmeraldbyFluxCirculationMethodofTemperatureGradientinUsedNaturalBeryl... Emerald (3BeO·Al 2O 3·6SiO 2:Cr 3+ )single crystal was grown by temperature gradient reflux method with using natural beryl in Korea. The flux of lithium Molybdenum vanadate system was 1,3,5 mole ratio of(MoO 3+V 2O 5)/Li 2O.The compositions of mixing beryl materials were 3%~10% of Emerald content to flux,1% of Cr 2O 3 color dopant to Emerald.The flux was melted at 1100℃ in Pt container of the 3 zone electric furnace with kanthal(Fe,Ni,Cr)heating element. The optimum composition of flux was 3 mole ratio of(MoO 3+V 2O 5)/Li 2O,substituted less than 0.2 mol% of K 2O,Na 2O to Li 2O amount.The mixing flux solution was melted at 1100℃ in Pt container of the 3 zone furnace and was cooled down to 1000℃.Crystal growing apparatus with temperature gradient in 3 zone furnace which was seperated into the block of melt,growth and return,was circulated continuously in steady state. Emerald single crystal was grown by dipping seed crystal in melt which was lowered from 1000℃ to 950℃.The growth solution which was supersaturated was maintained,controlled and prevented the nucleation of microcrystallite from variation of each thermal fluctuation range. Specially it has been grown large emerald single crystal when thermal fluctuation was treated for 2 hrs at one time a day at 950~1000℃ in growth zone ,substitutional solid solution effect of Cr 3+ ion for Al 3+ to the growth of emerald single crystal was good. Emerald single crystals were c (0001)hexagonal crystal face of preferencial growth direction and m (101-0)post side.Emerald single crystals with the first size of 0.6mm thickness of seed crystal have been grown into 32×65mm( c x m )of maximum size of 6.2mm thickness for duration of 5 months.
