This article argues that chinese classic poetry are translatable in the light of Nida' s dynamic correspondence theory.Dynamic translation focuses on the receptor's response.Based on the“effect of dynamic equivalence”,it aims at producing the similar response in the receptors to that in the original receptors. As to poetry translation,Nida acknowledges its specialty and complexity. He states it's crucial to keep the original's“spirit and manner”.Guided by the principle, adjustments can be taken in the Chinese poetry translating. This article makes a brief mention of the controversy of untranslatability and translatability in translation of ancient Chinese poetry into English.Through a close reading of the English versions of some ancient Chinese poems, the author confirms the translatability of ancient Chinese poetry and makes an analysis of methods in dealing with such issues as style, rhyming and culture difference. It also stresses that dynamic correspondence theory has its limitations. So in translating Chinese classic poetry, all methods are necessary as long as it clings to the spirit of the original.
