After analysis of 58 cases of inguinal hernia of people more than 60 years old treated in our hospital from 1993-1995, we concluded that the main causes of the disease were the degenerate changes in the cronia and some conditions increasing the intra-abdominal pressure. Detailed history and careful examination of the cronia were the important measures to avoid mistake in diagnosis. All the patients were treated by operation. We thought that the key of successful operation was the effective repairment of internal inguinal ring, and preoperative correction of the malfunction of main organs could improve the safty of the operation.
