The main food grains other than wheat and rice were beans , broomcorn millet , fortail millet , chinese sorghum , taro and yam in Jiangsu , Anhui , Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces in the Ming Dynasty. Beans were widespreadly planted in all over the areas , and were especial- ly in Huang-Huai plain , Changjinag delta and most of hilly land , Broomcorn millet . fortail millet and chinese sorghum grew widely in the North plain of Huaihe River , but were very little in the South of Huaihe River. Taro and yam mainly distributed over the South of Changjiang River , and the bands along Wusong River , in the southern of Jiaxing Fu (嘉兴 府 ) and the Eastern of Huzhou Fu (湖州府) taro and yam were planted more in contrast with the other regions.
