Zhenla Fengtuji written by Zhou Daguan of the Yuan Dynasty, including forty items on the local social customs, was an important work for the research of Cambodian historical culture. The thirteenth item in it lists the calendar prevailed in Cambodia at that time.In the early 20^(th)Century,P.Pelliot tried to offer an explanation on the calendar from the view of Indian Sanskirt.Several decades later,G. Coedes suggested it would be a native Cambodian one,not in Chinese tradition.Xia Nai,a famous archaeologist, also get involved in the research.Such attempts, however, seemed to be in failure. The present author conjectures that in Zhenla Fengtuji, the Cambodian custom taking October as the first month of a year was really a borrowing from the Qin Dynasty. Some taboos and the Twelve Zodiacs were also Chinese elements, with a single exception of the“seven luminaries”from the western world.
