摘要
中国历史悠久、地域辽阔、人文复杂,这使得古代城市起源动力呈多样化态势。安全保障、行政管理、交通枢纽、土地状况、农耕技术、手工业和商业的发展等皆为古代城市起源的动因。成因的多样化导致中国古代城市类型的多样化:政府政权所在地城市;商业及小手工业发展的专业城镇;特殊交通地理环境城镇;大规模的人口迁移城镇;军事驻扎地城市等。
China has a long history and a vast territory. The people have varied customs and cultural traditions and different preferences in literature and art. For this intricate situation, the formation ways of Chinese ancient cities were various. Security, governmental administration and traffic became the major underlying forces in shaping the cities. Therefore, the types 0f ancient cities are different： cities where the government established, cities where ~pecial trades prospered, cities where a hub of communication existed, cities where large amount of immigrants lived and cities where troops stationed.
