作者以原始材料为依据，讨论清末最早的科技期刊《格致汇编》的创刊缘起与刊行情况；分析其内容与特色；论述它在清末传播近代科学技术知识方面的贡献与影响。
This paper is a study of John Fryer's The Chinese Scientific Magazine (1876-1892). the first scientific magazine in China. The author investigate its origin and publication, analyses its contents and features. and discusses its contribution to the introduction of Western science and technology into China in the late nineteenth-century.
