摘要
过去时的基本意义表示过去时间,但也表示非真实性和和缓的语气,因而形成一个多义范畴。本文主要探讨英语动词过去时的实质──距离性及其背后的认知理据,从而揭示三种意义间的内在关系。
The Past tense is regarded as a polysemous category which has three different related The Past tense indicates past time, the unreality of meanings. an event or a state and functions as a kind of pragmatic softener.This paper dicusses the remoteness of past time, cognitive motivation and relationship between past time use and non-past time use.
