The effects of lead exposure through the placenta and milk of lead-treated mother mice on activity and brain dopamine (DA) level in their offsprings were studied. Blood and brain lead concentration were increased in newborn mice and there is a positive association between mother's and pup's blood lead concentration. In newborn mice, the change of endogeneous DA level was not seen on blood lead level of 1. 25Pμmol/L, but the rearing response behavior was enhanced. Larger doses of lead (blood level 3. 94μmol/L)significantly increased the level of brain DA and showed hyperactivity. These evidences suggest that the effect of lead on behavior is more sensitive. Subtle neurochemical changes would result in severe behavior alterrations.
