Translation Process (TP) is one of the core issues of translation studies. Taking a phenomenological approach and making use of some concepts and propositions in Chinese philosophy, this paper divides TP into four identifiable stages and elaborates on each of them. At the initial stage of "con-fusion," textual meaning is characterized by non-linearity, plurality, and indeterminacy. During the second stage of "orientation," the meaning becomes oriented and realized in both the original and the target contexts. The stage of "transformation" witnesses the full realization of the translator' s subjectivity in such terms as cognition of difference, consistent creativity, and honesty-illuminated faithfulness. This leads to the final stage of "vitality-giving", when the translated work starts to function as a vehicle for registering appropriate differences and to participate in the life-formation of the target culture.
