On both sides of the expressway, soil magnetic susceptibility is characteristic of gradual reduction from road center to the sides, so does the content of some heavy metals like Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, Fe, and so on. Related analyses showed a distinct correlativity between soil magnetic susceptibility and elements in the soils such as Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr, and Fe. So the soil magnetic susceptibility anomaly may indicate the heavy metal contamination in soils on both sides of the expressway. The analysis of element hosting conditions demonstrated that iron-manganese oxides and their residual forms were the main hosting modes for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cr and Fe ; the analyses of the forms of the elements and related statistics of soil magnetic susceptibility revealed that the soil magnetic susceptibility was of distinct correlativity with Cu, Pb and Zn in exchangeable form, Fe, Pb and Zn in iron-manganese oxides, Cu, Cr, Fe, Zn in organic reducing state and Cu, Pb, Fe, Zn, Cr, Co and Ni in residual state.
