Stem-nodulating legumes have higher nodule biomass and N2 fixation dueto dual nodulation，tolerance of flooding，alkali and acid．They are also unaffected tosome extend by mineral N. The use of Sesbania rostrata and Aeschynomene afraspera asgreen manure crops in low-land rice farming systems is a viable alternative to mineral Nfertilizer application.
