China's leading home appliance chain Gome announced to acquire the third largest chain, Yongle (China Paradise) at the price of HK＄5.268 billion on July 25th, three months after Yongle merged the Beijing-based appliance retailer Dazhong. The mergers, a result of the fierce industry competition and meager industry profit margin, seem on the surface that Huang Guangyu, Gome's Chairman is playing the leading role. However, some industry analysts speculate Chen Xiao, Chairman of Yongle and Morgan Stanley, Yongle's finance investor, be in fact the real director for these mergers, as Chen intends to retreat from this over-competitive sector and Morgan Stanley could profit from its transactions. Sources disclosed Dazhong, who feels betrayed, might suspend its merger with Yongle and turn to Suning, China's second-largest chain for M&A talks.
