摘要
麦克斯韦不仅是一位举足轻重的物理学家,而且还是卡文迪什实验室的主要创建者之一。作为第一任卡文迪什实验物理学教授兼实验室主任,他高瞻远瞩地确立的实验室发展的宗旨与方针,奠定了英国实验物理的研究传统与学风基础;他编辑出版的卡文迪什的科学论文集,为研究卡文迪什的科学思想提供了依据;他培养出的第一代实验物理人才,为英国物理学振兴构筑起了平台。
Maxwell is not only a physicist who plays a decisive role, but also one of the main creators of the Cavendish Experimental Laboratory. As the first professor in the Cavendish Experimental Laboratory and the director of the lab, he showed great foresight in establishing the guiding principles for the development of the laboratory. The principles laid the foundation for the research tradition and the style of study of the British experimental physics. The collection of academic theses compiled by him provided scientific basis for the scientific thought of the Cavendish experimental laboratory. The first generation of talents in experimental physics trained by him paved the road for the rejuvenation of British physics.
