摘要
从认知语言学的图形─背景理论出发,英语名动转用应是这样一种机制:使用者把认知结构“图形─背景”转化为“背景─图形”。这一认知过程在语言中的现实化就是使用者将“原生名词的意象(图形)─生成动词和其它相关知识的意象(背景)”转化为“生成动词的意象(图形)─原生名词和其它相关知识的意象(背景)”。
This paper explores English noun - verb conversion from the angle of Figure - Ground theory in cognitive linguistics. It discovers that the conversion is such a cognitive nlechanism： the Figure- Ground is converted into Ground -before -Figure in the cognitive thinking process of the users. In this process, the image of a parent noun （ Figure ） - the image of the converted verb and other relative knowledge （Ground） is converted into the image of the converted verb （Figure） -the image of the parent noun and other relative knowledge （Ground）.
