摘要
暗喻是字面上的荒谬,但其字面上的荒谬并不影响对其意义的理解而只是夺人眼目进而引人进入其语里意义的手段。暗喻基于明喻,明喻基于联想。正是联想机制使暗喻能够得以切断其喻点、喻词,将其所含的比喻隐蔽起来,同时给暗喻形式及其隐含比喻以心理强调,并通过其不定的喻点引起的次要联想使暗喻更加耐人寻味。暗喻辞效有力非凡与其内在机制中所隐含的美学因素也有相当的关系。
Metaphor is a literal absurdity, for, taken literally, the assertion is false and absurd. But the "falsity and absurdity" of the assertions do not affect how metaphors are to be understood but only serve as a means to attract attention and to lead to comprehension on a figurative plane. Under the cover of absurdity lies the real basis of metaphor: simile comparison. Simile comparison is based on association. It is with such a logical basis as that of the simile comparison behind it that metaphor is able to cut out any linguistic expressions that signal a simile comparison or the ground, so as to cover up the comparison and place a psychological emphasis both on the form of the metaphor and on the covert comparison inside it, and to make it more subtle by permitting some secondary similarity associations into the ground of the comparison, or, in one word, to make it a metaphor. Metaphor also owes much of its force and effect to the aesthetic elements in its mechanism: its novelty, its conciseness, its vividness, its indirectness and its subtleness.
