Objective : Neonatal infection is common disease. This study was to investigate expression of neutrophil adhesion molecule CD64 in bacterial infection and its significance. Methods: According to the diagnostic criteria for neonatal septicemia, the patients were divided into septicemia group ( n = 12) and non - septicemic infection group ( n = 22 ). Twenty - eight hospitalized neo- nates with non - infection disease were enrolled as controls. The levels of peripheral blood neutrophil CD64 were measured by using flow cytometry. We also assessed the level of serum CRP and IL - 6. Results : The expression level of neutrophil CD64 and the levels of IL - 6, CRP in the septicemia group were significantly higher than those in the control group and non - septicemic infection group ( P 〈 0. 05 ). The expression level of neutrophil CD64 and the levels of IL - 6, CRP in non - septicemic infection group were also sig- nificantly higher than those in the control group (P 〈 0. 05 ) .. The expression of neutrophil CD64 showed a positive correlation to the levels of IL - 6 (P 〈 0. 01 ) ; The expression of neutrophil CD64 changed with the condition of the sick neonates. Conclusion: The expression of neutrophil CD64 was increased in the bacterial infection and changed with the condition of the sick neonates. Therefore, it could be useful for diagnostic and prognostic marker for neonate bacterial infection.
