Trichomoniasis is a common STI caused by infection with Trichomonas vaginalis. T. vaginalis is a flagellated protozoan with five flagella that are responsible for the organism＇s characteristic motility. Under poor growth conditions, these flagella can become internalized. It is unclear whether these pseudocysts are viable and able to revert to the flagellated form.
