A hot pressing fabrication technology in which copper plated tungsten wires are sintered in the preparation of W/Cu composites has been studied. Owing to the tendency of strength degradation of colddrawn tungsten wires at temperatures above 1123K and an aggravation of strength degradation with prolonged hot pressing, it is suggested fromthe experim ent that hot pressing temperature ought to be limited below 1123K, and that hot pressing time kept within 30-60min. It can also be shown that W/Cu composites having fine properties may be produced by appropriate hot pressing parameters. In most cases, the tensile strength of W/Cu composites may reach 80-90% of the level of the theoretical ROM value.
