On Practical Compensation for GPS Multi-Path Effect for Space Users

摘要 分析了空间特殊环境之下的GPS多路径效应的成因和特点,并提出一种软件补偿算法,可以将多路径造成的误差限制在0.5m以内。 We discern in Richard's 1992 paper[4] a valuable idea- not clearly stated by him about redesigning of carrier- phase- locking-loop in GPS receiver for solving the multi- path problem. For such an idea to be applied to an engineering solution of the problem, much remains to be done, and to our best knowledge, nothing has yet been done as f&r as open literature is concerned. For space users of GPS, a method simpler than redesigning and immediately applicable to solution of the multi-path effect is now proposed by us. For space users, multipath effect is much easier to be compensated for. We design a modified Kalman filter to compensate for the “peak” effect. Another part of its effect is compensated for through utilizing a mathematical model established by us. Why this model can be established is essentially because, different from multi- path effect sources on the earth, the effect of such sources on a satellite is quite predictable. From Fig. 5, it can be seen that, after such compensation, the error due to multi- path effect can be reduced to less than 0. 5 m.
