摘要
Comparing with the traditional moral teachings, Feng Youlan’s works Xin Shi Xun (New Treatise on the Way of Life) written in late 1930s paid more attention to immoral life teachings and how to pursue success without violating morals. It advanced a kind interpretation of traditional virtues as life teaching to young people, so that these virtues could adapt individual life in modern society, thereby ancient sage moral can transfer to modern moral life based on individuals. This problem is just how the ideal characters in traditional Chinese culture adjust themselves to adapt modern society. Like the phrase “After Virtue”, we call this effort as a pursuit of “After Sage”. The author believes that the system of Xin Shi Xun still has its significance in our epoch of social-transformation from socialist plan economy to socialist market economy.
