The present paper is devoted to the analysis of equilibrium and stability conditions in multi-phase systems. The conditions for systems with one mode of work (expansion work)or two modes of it (expansion and surf actal work) are derived in detail. It is asserted by the author that the spinodal line orresponding to the homogeneous system can only be applied to distinguish the accesstable (stable and metastable) states from unaccessible (unstable)ones. Thus it should be differenciated from the phase boundary. The formulas obtained in the paper show that the marginal stability line for homogeneous nucleation will move away from spinodal line in state diagram.
