CIN85 and CD2AP comprise a new family of adaptor proteins that plays important roles in animal development and diseases. They share a high sequence similarity in several functional domains that exhibit unique scaffolding function. Recent data suggest that the scaffolding function of CIN85 may control multiple cellular functions, such as down-regulation of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTK), regulation of apoptosis, and modulation of cell adhesion.
