Objective To evaluate the validity, reliability and cultural relevance of Myocardial Infarction Dimensional Assessment Scale (MIDAS) as an effective assessment instrument for Chinese patients with myocardial infarction(MI). Method The culture relevance, language equivalency and content validity of the Chinese version of the MIDAS (CMIDAS) were evaluated by an expert panel. The scale was used to test 88 Chinese patients with Mi. Thirty of them were retested within 2 weeks for tes ring reliability. Results Two items were modified. The overall CMIDAS and seven domains had acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's α was 0.94 for the scale and 0.73-0.91 for the domains) and the retested reliability (internal correlation eoeffi eient was 0.85 for the overall scale and 0, 74-0.94 for the severr domains). Measured with Chinese Version of the Short Form 36 (CSF 36), there was acceptable concurrent validity with significant correlations between CMIADS subscale and patients’ perceived quality of life (P〈0.05). The principal components analysis showed the presence of seven factors together explained 66.92% of the variance. The findings also demonstrated a high factor loading indicating good construct validity of the CMIDAS. Conclusions It is supported that CMIADS is a valid and reliable as disease specific heahh status measure for Chinese patients with MI.
