摘要
本文通过对英国著名学者戴维·赫尔德《民主与全球秩序》一书的述评，着重从共和主义与自由主义张力的角度阐发了民主的模式及其现代含义，特别是揭示了自由主义民主的内涵，分析了现代国家观念与民主观念之间的张力及蕴藏在其后的“国家主权说”与“人民主权说”的争辩以及自由主义民主国家对两者的调和，最后对“世界主义民主”进行了评论和展望。
Examining David Held＇s Democracy and Global Order, the essay demonstrates the models and modern conception of democracy from the perspective of the divergence between republicanism and liberalism, and especially explores the meaning of liberal democracy. Furthermore, it analyses the tension of the modern state and democracy based on the theories of ＂state sovereignty＂ and ＂popular sovereignty＂, and liberal democracy＇s conciliation of the controversy. Finally, the essay reviews the theory of ＂eosmo politan democracy＂.
