In this paper, the broken strength of tentacles and arms of symplectoteuthis oualaniensis are tested at the sea from December 2004 to January 2005 in order to analyze the cause of jigging off rate and reduce the rate. The results show that the average broken strength of tentacles is 1.06 times of its weight, the first arm and the second arm are 2.55 times and 2.87 times as high as its weight respectively, and the last two arms are 1.88 times more than its weight. The ratio of broken pacificus and Ommastrephes bartrami . The results also strength to its weight is lower than that of Todarodes indicate that the low broken strength of tentacles is one of the main causes leading to high jigging off rate. There are linear relationships between the ratio of broken strength to weight and its mantle length, and between the ratio and its weight respectively.
