摘要
文学批评是一项艰难的事业。一个人能否成为优秀的批评家,最终取决于他是否具备一种特殊的精神气质。因为,气质是一种在人的心理活动中具有动力学意义的内在力量,它影响着人的心理活动的速度、强度和方向。具体地说,批评家的精神气质由包含着浪漫主义情调和理想主义精神的唐吉诃德气质、体现着平等精神和独立人格的民主气质和求真尚实的科学气质构成。责任伦理是与精神气质同样重要的主体素质,因为它意味着批评家应该承担什么样的使命、追求什么样的文化目标。
Literary criticism is a very difficult enterprise. An excellent critic is ultimately determined by his or her ethos which is an eternal strength serving as dynamics in human psychological activities, and exerts great influence upon the speed, intensity and direction of these activities. This ethos consists Don Quixotes’ spirit of both romanticism and idealism, the democratic spirit of equality and independence, and the scientific spirit of seeking truth. The ethical responsibility is as important as the ethos because it suggests what kind of mission a critic should take and what cultural objective he or she should set up.
