Social, Economical and Ecological Significance of Eucalyptus Plantation

摘要 按树具有很好的社会和经济效益。按树人工林不但提供各类木材和非木材产品,而且对农田风沙防护、园林绿化以及水土保持等也有重要作用。但长期以来,对按树人工林的生态问题存在很多争论,本文就此作了详细的论述。 Eucalyptus plantation not only provides different kinds of wood and wooden products, but also plays important role in protection of farmland from wind and sand storm, afforestation and soil conservation. The debate about ecological role of Eucalyptus plantation existed since long. The ecological role of Eucalyptus plantation was discussed in detail in this paper. Eucalyptus plantation doesn't effect local climate, but exert significant influence on the state of water and humidity in the plantation and other microclimate factors. Most species of Eucalyptus consume similar amount of water as other tree species, however some Eucalyptus species produce more dry material with the same consumed water. Eucalyptus plantation doesn't have any negative effect on ground water level. In dry area where water consumed by Eucalyptus plantation is higher than the rainfall, irrigation is needed. The natural cycling of soil nutrient in Eucalyptus plantation is in a position to support a stable level for most nutrients, as to the minority nutrients consumed more by the Eucalyptus plantation, they can be supplemented by fertilization. In comparison with other tree species, the Eucalyptus has higher efficiency in nutrient utilization. Long—rotation management is favorable for the soil nutrient maintenance in Eucalyptus plantation. Eucalyptus plantation alleviates the tension in cutting of nature forest, so as to protect the biological diversity. Well managed Eucalyptus plantation has good plant cover under the crown and more living beings. Reasonable management is able to guarantee good social, economical and ecological effects.
