根据联合国粮农组织公布的《1990年全球森林资源评估》和《1980年世界森林资源统计》等文献,详细地介绍了当代全球森林面积、覆盖率、蓄积量、生物量、1980～1990年森林资源消长及2010年原木消费量预测,为研究世界和各国林业可持续发展战略提供了可靠的依据。
The forest areas, forest coverage, standing volume, biomass, increase and decrease of forest resources from 1980 to 1990 and timber consumption forecast for 2010 in the world, different areas and some main forestry countries are introduced and analyed in detailed. The total forest areas in the world in 1990 is 34.42 hundred million ha. It is less than the forest area in 1980 by 99.53 million ha. The annual decreasing rate is 0.2%. It is predicted that the world timber consumption will reach 50. 69 hundred million m^3 in 2010. The reliable foundation is provided for the statistic research on sustained development of forestry in the world.
