摘要
本文勾画了美国男女同校的历史与现状,认为从19世纪到20世纪70年代,男女同校都被视为女性赢得与男子一样的受教育机会的标志性成果以及实现男女平等的重要途径。20世纪70年代之后,女性主义发现学校中存在大量性别歧视现象,认为男女同校不仅没有消除性别歧视,反而使女孩过于女性化,男孩过于男性化,加强了性别刻板模式。男女同校的进步形象被颠覆,人们再也不能简单地歌颂男女同校。
The essay examines the evolution of coeducation in America since 19th century. It points out that coeducation has always been regarded as the main achievement of women' s equal educational opportunity and the important means of realizing gender equality from 19th century to 1970s. Since 1970s, the progressive image of coeducation has been challenged. Feminism research discovers the phenomenon of sex bias in schools, coeducation not only did not realize gender equality, but also made the sex stereotype stronger. Coeducation could not be simply praised today.
