摘要
本文围绕“学”的观念,以孔子为主来说明儒家的教育理想,在论述中先说明孔子对教育和知识学习的重视,然后指出孔子的教育不仅重视知识的“学文”,更强调德性的“学道”;指出“圣人可学”的观念对解释儒家教育思想特色的意义,特别指出儒家强调自我学习的观念的重要性;最后论述了儒家的教育理念和目标。本文认为,儒家的教育理念,重视经典的人文教养,以君子的榜样为学习的模范,以德行优于知识,以圣人人格为教育的培养目标,强调成人或全人的教育理念,突出“学”和自我的主动性在教育过程中的意义,着眼在把人变成全面发展的高尚的人。儒家的教育思想不仅仅是对狭义的教育的认知,而且蕴涵着整个古典时代对“人”的理解。
This essay explicates the ideals of education in Confucianism, focusing mainly on Confucius' notion of “learning”. Confucius stresses the importance of not only learning culture (xuewen 学文) or acquiring knowledge, but also learning dao (xuedao 学道) or achieving personal excellence. The latter is the key to the idea of “learning to be a sage” (shengrenkexue 圣人可学)”in Confucian education. In addition to the Confucian idea of self learning, Chen Lai elaborates upon the ideals and objectives of Confucian education, which include following the model of exemplary person, prioritizing personal excellence, stressing the ideal of humanistic cultivation in the classics, and taking the cultivation of the sagely character as the ultimate goal of education. The educational ideal of the “whole person” put emphasis on the act of “learning” and self-discipline in the educational process. The Confucian philosophy of education encompasses the full understanding of what it means to be the human being during the classical period in ancient China.
