Lunpola basin is a Cenozoic deposition basin of continental fades, located in the south of Tanggula Mountain in Xizang(Tibet)Plateau. The basic characteristics of deposition systems are discussed from the features of stratigraphy evolution of paleo-geomorphology,classification of deposition sequence and systems tract, types of deposition facies and distribution of paleogene Niubao Formation and Dingqinghu Formation. It is pointed out that the basin is a deformed one and that its paleo-geomorphic feature is obviously different from present-day tectonic framework in the basin. It controls the types of deposition facies and distribution of facies zones. Finally, favourable facies zones and areas are predicted for oil and gas accumulation.
