Objective:To explore the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) in bladder cancer and their clinical significance. Methods:The immunohistochemical staining assay was conducted to detect expression of MMP-9/TIMP-1 in 56 cases of bladder transitional cell carcinoma. The relationships among MMP-9/TIMP-1 expression, pathological grades and clinical stages of BTCC were also analyzed, Results:The positive rates of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in bladder cancer are 64.29% ,57.14% respectively, MMP-9 expression increased significantly as the clinical stages and pathological grades, With the improvement of invasion tendency of BTCC.the expression of TIMP-1 was gradually increased, The two biomarkers have low positive correlation, Conclusions: The interaction between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 may play an important role in the invasive and metastatic progression of BTCC. Moreover, MMP-9 is regarded as a prognostic indicator of clinical early stage.
