Post-conflict behavior has been reported in most of non-human primates. Through studies of Old World monkeys and great apes, primatologists have focused on reconciliation behavior as an early stage of post-conflict behavior, but other post-conflict behaviors such as redirected aggression consolatory behaviors and substitute reconciliation have also been noted in recent years. Nowadays, the PC-MC method is adopted in most post-conflict behavior work and many studies indicated that different species have different post-conflict behavioral patterns. Dominance style, kin relationship, rank distance and other factors can influence post-conflict behaviors. Primatologists have also found that different post-conflict behaviors have different functions and have put forward various hypothesese, such as social-cognition hypothesis, social-constraints hypothesis and valuable relationship hypothesis to account for some certain post-conflict behavior.
