该文介绍马大猷院士的简历及其学术成就,着重叙述他作为中国近代声学的奠基人之一,所做的一些开创性工作:创立描述房间中低频简正波数目与频率的关系的公式;和美国同事一起提出,利用简正波的阻尼来分析矩形房间中的声衰变,使房间声学从统计的发展成为物理的新段阶;建立了喷气噪声强度的压力理论,利用驻点压力和喷口尺寸来预测湍流和小孔噪声的A声级;他还积极从事有源噪声控制和非线性声学的研究,并取得了显著成果。
Both the biographical notes and the scientific achievements of Prof. Maa are described in this paper with special emphasis on his initiative and creative work as a founder of modern acoustics in China. The formula he gave to describe the distribution of normal modes in a rectangular chamber at low frequency range became one of the basic relations in acoustics and was collected in some acoustic books. The sound decay in a rectangular room was analyzed in terms of aerial vibration by Maa and his American colleagues, and this work is regarded as a milestone in room acoustics. In order to facilitate the prediction of the sound field produced aerodynamically,he established some empirical expressions for sound pressure levels and A-weighted sound levels of cold air jet noise, which include both turbulent and shock-cell noise,in terms of the stagnation pressure and size of the nozzle. He has also made some remarkable achievements in the field of active noise control and nonlinear acoustics,and is still active in research work.
