广州市地处亚热带,气候温暖,雨量充沛。过去属麻风高流行区(患病率>1‰)。1958年建立了市皮肤病防治所,下属太和麻风村,并与南海县黄京围(即现红卫医院)麻风院合办300张病床,收治麻风病人。此后经过反复培训,建立了市区乡三级防治网,由市皮防所负责业务指导。
In the last 35 years there accumulatively were 7399 registered cases of leprosy in the city of Guangzhou. By the end of 1993 there remained 58 active cases and the prevalence was 0.015 per 1,000, decreasing by 98. 7 % as compared with that in the year with the highest one. In the same period of time the incidence also declined by 99. 8%, there was no new chirldhood case and those with the disease duration less than two years a-mong the new cases were increasing. It is estimated that the aim at basical eradication of leprosy,i, e. the prevalence and incidence are less than 0. 01 per 1,000 and 0.5 per 100,000 respectively, will be reached in the jurisdictional area of Guangzhou by the end of 1995.
