On May 20, China＇s Ministry of Commerce （MOFCOM） announced it would raise export tariffs on 74 categories of textile products, an act resulting in a 400 percent tariff increase for Chinese businesses, Through this voluntary tariffincrease, China was trying to smooth its textile trade frictions with the US and European Union（ EU ） by showing compromise.
