On May 27,1995,a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck the region of the Russian fareast island of Sakhalin,resulting in great losses of life and property.This was the most disastrousearthquake in Russian history.Some information data about this earthquake are overviewed in thispaper,mainly including:focal parameters,earthquake disasters,disaster relief and assistances,cause of the earthquake and seismic tendency,as well as the seismological researches in Russia.
