摘要
Many people believe that language is the province of language teachers and that society is a topic left to social studies teachers. But social studies as a subject is incomplete without a knowledge of the role of language in human social, political and economic behaviour. Language study is incomplete without an understanding of the social setting of language. This paper is intended to assess the role of language in society and analyses how society shapes language.
