In order to identify the effects ofmepacrine on β-adrenergic receptor(β-AR). radio-ligand binding assays were taken to compare the ef-fects of mepacrine inhibiting to[3H]dihydroalprenolol([3H]DHA) binding to β-AR with that of β-ARagonist and antagonist, and the effects of mepacrineon β-AR effectors were investigated simultaneously us-ing biochemical and pharmocological methods. The re-sults demonstrated that mepacrine activate β-AR andprod uce its biologic effects,such as,increase ofintracellular cAMP level.decrease of content of liverglycogen,enhance of lipolysis of adipocyte and relaxa-tion of uterine smooth muscle.These data indjcatedthat mepacrine mav be one of the β-AR agonists.
