The exploration of Qizishan filling site in Suzhou is a good operation. Through a comprehensive exploration, the hydrogeological and engineering geological conditions have been investigated based on the exploration requirements proposed by the designing institute. The exploration shows that Quaternary overburden in a cross section of No. 3 and No. 4 cols as a rubbish disposal site has a larger thickness and the outcropping weathering zone of bedrock gradually become deeper at longitudinal direction and shallower at the ridge direction of east and west sides. Four faults among seventeen faults nearby disposal site pass through the site. Because of weak activity of groundwater, imperfect permeability in the fault belt and small fault width as well as good solidified filling, they do not affect on the steadiness of edge and dam base in the site. The aquifer of phreatic-microconfined pore water in Quaternary rock and earth beds of the site can not be acted as a natural impervious bed and the strong weathering bed of quartz sandstone in bedrock acting as a fissured type aquifer when treated by impervious measures and non-weathering bed in bedrock with large thickness can act as a good impermeable and aquifuge bed. Groundwater level is the same as that the topography,and surface water is rigidly related to the groundwater with same flow direction. Their water quality belongs to calcium bicarbonate water without damaging to the concrete.There exist a good engineering conditions and shallow bedrock outcrop,soft and hard bearing capacities are respectively 250-400 kpa and 3500-4000 kpa.According to the characters of the site and structures, practical proposals for the construction of the disposal site are as follows: the dam site should be constructed in the cross section of No. 3 and No. 4 cole; the base of trapping dam can be designed to a step type; the drain flooded and intercepting dikes with a catchment area 0. 6 km2 should be constructed; as an impervious measure the curtain-grouting method should be used and the environmental monitor to atmosphere, groundwater and rubbish's leaking fluid should be carried out; the afforestation operation should be done in time after the rubbish disposal site is closed.
