Abstract In this paper, finite element methods for compressible flow of contamination from nuclear waste in porous media are discussed. Optimal order error estimates in H1 are obtained.This paper improves previous works in two aspects. First, error estimates are givenwith no restrictions on the diffusion tensor. Secondly, the complete compressible case inconsidered in the error analysis
