This paper describes a short, high-performance cryogenic upper stage designed by Martin Marietta for optimum performance when launched with an attached payload by an NSTS 65K Orbiter. A low-thrust and high thruststage configuration offering a high degree of commonality and flexibility was defined to support the 7-day and 30- day missions.
