The bending strength of glass is determined by the cracks or flaws on the glass surface.The length,number and distribution of the cracks on glass surface have direct influence on the bending strength.Through a great deal of experiments in this work the authors have revealed the effect of cracks on bending strength of glass and deduced quantitative expressions for the relationships between the bending strength and the length/number of cracks on glass surface,The results show that the bending strength is not inversely proportional to the square root of the crack length on surface and that there exists a strong interaction among the large number of cracks.
